MEET OUR STAFF

Our Minister

Mary AliceMary Alice

I was born in and raised in Waco, TX and spent the first 23 years of my life as a member of First Presbyterian Church in Waco and that had a profound impact on my life.  I was very happy growing up in that church and my family was and is still very active in the Waco church.  I gladly participated in the life of the church through my childhood and teenage years and never thought much about what it means to be a Presbyterian.

Our high school youth group consisted of about 12 youth who went to several different high schools in Waco, so Sunday evening youth group was a special time to be together.  One summer, several of us decided to participate in the Synod of the Sun youth conference in San Antonio.  It was an amazing experience for me and where I first thought about a call to ministry.

I came home from the conference and announced to my parents that I was going to be a minister.  At age 15, I had no idea what that meant.  Fortunately for me, I had a wonderful community of faith at First Presbyterian to guide me through that part of my life.

I graduated from Baylor University in 1980 and from McCormick Theological Seminary in Chicago, IL in 1985.  I have served churches in Texas, Pennsylvania, Florida and New Jersey.  I am thrilled to be back in Texas and my home Presbytery.

I have two daughters, Alice and Anna.  Alice is 25 years old and mentally handicapped and lives with me.  Alice loves church and once you introduce yourself to her you have a friend for life.  Anna is 18 years old and serving in AmeriCorps this year and going to college.

I am excited about our ministry at First Church Commerce and look forward with hope in God’s redeeming grace and love to our journey together.
