WORSHIP
Worship is the heart of the church’s life and ongoing mission. At First Presbyterian Church of Commerce we worship as a community to come and draw from the wellsprings of life we have found in God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Our worship is created in accordance to the guidance given in The Book of Common Worship and in accordance to the Directory of Worship (part of our Book of Order). As reformed Christians we seek to have worship be orderly in content but joyful and spirit filled in its feel. We have a traditional form of worship and use the common lectionary as a basis for scripture that is read and preached. We encourage people to be a part of the worship service by greeting, lay readers, candle lighters (our children) and sing in our choir.
We celebrate the sacrament of communion on the first Sunday of the month and on other important days of the Christian year. We also have services on Christmas Eve, Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday and when our session feels it is appropriate. In times of great joy or sorrow we feel worship is important to the lives of Christians. We care deeply about baptism and weddings and strive to make them meaningful, reverent and joyful for all who attend services. Funerals are also a worship service in the reformed faith and we seek to have funerals honor God and the life that God gave in the one who has died.
The First Presbyterian Church of Commerce seeks to be open to any who wish to know Jesus Christ. We understand that those who have not attended worship before or have not attended a Presbyterian worship might feel a little uncomfortable. For this reason we have greeters at every service to help you with questions about the service, our church and our buildings. We do have a nursery available during worship for children first grade and under.

Worship Music at First Presbyterian Church of Commerce
First Presbyterian has one adult choir that sings for Sunday worship services. The choir consists of volunteer church members and music students from Texas A&M University-Commerce. The choir literature consists of traditional soprano, alto, tenor and bass arrangements, usually accompanied by either piano or organ. Occasionally, special music is presented by a gospel quartet or various instrumental combinations.
Rehearsals for the choir are held
on Sunday mornings beginning at 8:45 a.m. and ending at 9:45 a.m., leaving time for participants to attend Sunday School. Each year the choir presents a Christmas Cantata and sings for other special church calendar events.
We welcome those who are interested in joining the choir. For more information, please contact the church office at (903) 886-3783.
